Cause

— Save the iconic bird

The Kangaroo Island Glossy Black-cockatoo faces a critical challenge due to habitat loss and fragmentation. Our ‘Save the Glossy’ initiative aims to address this pressing issue and secure a sustainable future for these unique birds.

Why?

— They are at risk

The population of the Kangaroo Island Glossy Black-cockatoo is dwindling, primarily because of increased land development and a reduction in their primary food source, Allocasuarina seeds. Your involvement in tree planting is crucial to counteract these threats and create a conducive environment for the Glossy Black-cockatoos to thrive.

What is KI Glossy Black-cockatoo?

— An unique species

Kangaroo Island has a special subspecies of the endangered Glossy Black-cockatoo that exists nowhere else. It is an endangered species known for its glossy black feathers and vibrant red tail bands. With a specialized diet of Allocasuarina seeds, these birds are integral to the island’s ecosystem.

Help

— Planting for the KI Glossy

The Glossy Black-cockatoo habitat on the western end of the Island was significantly impacted by the summer 2019-2020 bushfires. You can make a difference by participating in our tree planting activities. By contributing to the expansion of their habitat, you directly support the survival of the Kangaroo Island Glossy Black-cockatoo. Join us in the ‘Save the Glossy’ initiative and play a vital role in ensuring a brighter future for these magnificent birds.
